Dear Parents,

We have had an excellent week of activities, with events across all year groups and also covering various areas of the curriculum.

Students in Reception have been local at the importance of good dental hygiene and those in Year 1 have been discovering the wonders of Space. Assemblies have been had by our Year 5 students - my thanks to all parents who came to support.

Our Year 9 and 10 Business Studies IGCSE students have been practising their entrepreneurial skills with a BIC version of the famed BBC programme, the Dragons' Den.

Finally, our commitment to enhancing the sports provision at the school continues, with visits from the Mallorca Hockey Club and an exciting football fixture against King Richard III school.

As you will see, we aim to ensure that our students continue to enjoy their BIC experience by providing them with a wealth of learning opportunities.

Yours ever,

Duncan Giles

Principal, BIC Sa Porrassa

Reminder: Morning & Afternoon pick-up/drop-off procedure

In order to ensure the safety of our students, parents are reminded of the following pick-up and drop-off procedures:

  • Parents and students are asked not to come through the office or use office as a shortcut at either drop off or pick up, unless seeing office staff.
  • Please use the large gate, do not ring the bell to the reception during pick up/drop off.
  • The large gate opens at 15:55 for parents to collect their children.
  • The large gate closes at 08:55, children arriving after this time will need to sign in late at Reception.

Your cooperation is very much appreciated.

Mallorca Hockey Club visits BIC

Mallorca Hockey Club, based in Palma, have visited BIC and led some taster sessions with students in Primary and Secondary this week to supplement the curriculum.

Students are currently learning the skills of hockey in PE lessons and this club link gives them the opportunity to make contact with coaches and enhance their skills. The club is the only one on the island and plays fixtures across the rest of Spain. They have a full male and female adult and junior section.

Anyone interested in their son or daughter taking part in sessions at the club should contact them directly via email or visit their website for more information.

Mallorca Hockey Club plans to run an extra curricular club at BIC Sa Porrassa from September 2019 onwards.

BIC vs King Richard III Football Fixture

King Richard III 3 - 2 BIC

Year 5 and 6

This week BIC Year 5 and 6 were narrowly defeated in their away game against King Richard III school. Despite falling behind twice in the game, the team battled well and stayed positive right until the end. The team contained two debutantes, Aaron and Farrah, who both played brilliantly throughout, in all three positions.

Replacement goalkeeper and captain Dexter made a number of excellent saves to help his team out at the final moment. However, he couldn't stop King Richard's opening goal, bundled home after a long throw in towards their centre forward. Nils quickly levelled the game up with a good finish, lofting it over the advancing goalkeeper.

However, King Richard III continued to attack and scored two goals to take themselves 3-1 ahead with little time remaining. The team pulled a goal back but there was not enough time to force the draw.

BIC should be pleased with their efforts and will be looking forward to the double header against Queens next week!
