Success at BIC Dragons' Den
BIC Students aged 13 to 16 presented their business ideas to local entrepreneurs at the end of March, following the format of the BBC's Dragons' Den - our students pitched their idea for three minutes to our entrepreneurs, known as the Dragons on the show.
Business ideas presented included a luxury local ice cream, French breakfast service to the sailing community, fix your PC YouTube channel, virtual reality tourism, male makeup and a self-grooming pet flap.
Business subject leader, Mr Gray, praised the students and the Dragons for being as good as the TV show! The event was very well attended and future plans include the students who presented sharing their presentation tips with Primary School students who will do their own Year 6 Sa Porrassa and Sant Agustí Dragons' Den later this year.
A huge thanks goes to our Dragons - Alexander Skora, Amanda Bedborough and Matthew Cull (pictured left to right), who have offered to help our students to further develop their business ideas and to judge a future BIC Dragons' Den.
Race Against Hunger
Created in 1979, the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) – Action Against Hunger – is fighting against hunger in the world. Its mission is to save lives eradicating hunger through the prevention, detection, and treatment of malnutrition, in particular during and after emergency situations caused by conflicts and natural disasters.
Today, Action Against Hunger is a major player in the fight against hunger in the world. Structured on an international network, the organisation provides a coordinated response in nearly 50 countries. Their priority is to have effective actions in the fields and testify about vulnerable population. If you would like to learn more about the organisation please go to https://www.actioncontrelafaim.org/en/.
During the last 2 weeks of March, all students ran or walked laps around the playing field and took part in some obstacles along the way. Every student was rewarded with a certificate stating the number of laps they managed to complete.
Secondary students were sponsored for the number of laps completed, whilst Primary students collected donations for their efforts.
All money raised will be spent on this fight. During the assemblies most students attended, they learned that it takes just €40 to keep a child alive for one month, so please donate generously.
Please send your donation in a sealed envelope, with your child's name clearly written on the outside, as soon as possible. Once all the money is collected we will inform you of how much was raised.
Thank you for your support,
BIC Charity Group
Sixth Form First Aid Training
Research shows that 7 out of 10 students would NOT know what to do if someone was hurt.
Sixth Form students will take part in a Student First Aid training session on Tuesday 9th April 8.50 - 9.50am as part of their regular Personal, Social, Health and Economic classes run at BIC. The course will cover first aid basics such as choking, bleeding and CPR. The training will be practical, fun and a first step towards further first aid competence for our students.
Year 5W Assembly
Last week it was 5W's turn to present their annual class assembly to the school and to their parents.
The theme was continents, so the class decided to take the audience on a whistle stop tour of all seven, learning some interesting facts along the way. The audience were treated to several themed dances and even participated in a quiz to check everyone was listening. The finale was a rousing version of 'Wave Your Flag', with children waving a plethora of global flags, making it a truly international assembly.
Well done 5W!
