Dear Parents,

Our first week of kayaking was a success with Year 4-6 having two hour sessions each. We are so lucky to have Calanova on our doorstep and are happy that we can now add kayaking to our water sports program.

This week we had two fantastic outdoor assemblies for parents. On Monday Year 3 had produced a play about the Stone Age where two boys dreamt they went on an adventure and met some new friends. Year 2 have been learning about dinosaurs and we travelled back in time with them to discover dinosaur facts taught through dinosaur raps! Thanks to all the parents for the impressive costumes and Mr Andy for the stone age weapons!

The Year 5 & 6 class have been working on a Dragons Den style initiative which they presented on Wednesday to the “dragons”. A very interesting and creative set of business ideas that included a plastic collection machine and a vacuum cleaner that plays music so you can dance while you clean. Well done to the students for their enthusiasm and teamwork.

Next week Year 2 to 6 will begin their GL Assessments in English and Maths. These consist of a Progress Test in Maths (PTM), which is a standardised assessment of students’ mathematical skills and knowledge, and a Progress Test in English (PTE), which is a standardised assessment of students’ technical English skills (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and reading comprehension. These are enjoyable online assessments for the students with a variety of activities and challenges and they help us to gauge each student’s performance and progress over time.

Summer Show Dates Reminder:

- Year 1-6 : Friday 21st June at The Bendinat Auditorium - 3pm

- Nursery and Reception: Wednesday 19th June at BIC - 3pm

Next week we have the students from Britannica Shanghai visiting for their annual sailing trip to Mallorca. On Monday they will be coming in to school to do an assembly for our children all about life in Shanghai. They will also spend time in school with us learning about the similarities and differences of school. Our students really enjoyed this experience last year and we look forward to welcoming them. As part of a global Orbital group of schools we are lucky to have these opportunities.

From Sant Agustí, we wish you a lovely weekend

Nursery Starfish Class

This week in Starfish class we have been playing a lot with our light box. The children love to use this resource as it gives them the opportunity to learn and manipulate things from a different perspective. They’ve explored what happens when they put together different colour paddles and their colours mix into a new colour; they’ve also done some numbers and letters games. This week we’ve also participated in one of our favourite activities: use chalks to draw all type of lines and letters on the playground’s floor! It has been a week full of fun!

Reception Seahorse Class

This week the Seahorse class have been enjoying listening to the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ by Eileen Browne. We have continued to investigate real fruits and vegetables and have been finding out what our favourite fruits are. We collected data and counted carefully to find which fruits had the most and the least votes. Strawberries are our favourite with a total of 8 votes! We have also been writing about different ways to stay healthy using all that we have learnt across the past few weeks.

Year 1 Seals Class

This week we have been concentrating on our Class Assembly performance as well as starting to learn songs for the Summer Show. We have been very busy learning our lines, dancing and thinking about what makes a great performance. We have had time for some DT in the art room. We made our version of Captain Hook’s pirate ship using junk modelling!

Year 2 Turtles Class

A big well done to all The Turtles this week for their fantastic class assembly! They have been working so hard making sure their songs, lines and dance routines were just right and it definitely paid off! Thank you to those who could make it, we hope you enjoyed it! In other news, on Thursday afternoon, Turtles made some delicious strawberry treats with Miss Stott and Miss Jaimy. They were delicious!

Year 3 Dolphins Class

This week it was finally… SHOWTIME! The Dolphins have been working so hard practicing their lines and songs for their Stone Age assembly and they were so excited to finally share all of their hard work with their families and friends. Well done to all of the Dolphins for their incredible performance and thank you to all of the families for your wonderful support.

Year 4 Jellyfish Class

This week we have visited Calanova and had the opportunity to participate in Kayaking. The Jellyfish class went out in pairs and had instructors to help them develop their skills. Great team work meant that those who were beginners were supported by those who had already done it before. Lots of coordination needed as well as lots of FUN!

Year 5 & 6 Whales and Sharks Class

This week has been even busier than last with a lot of focus on creative curriculum and outdoor learning. We started off with Forest School where the children enjoyed their lesson learning about the local plants. They had their art lesson in the forest as well and created some beautiful natural designs. This also connects very well with our Science work on life cycles. We are turning out to have quite the green thumb as well! We have planted our beans in our new garden on our patio and we are ready to plant our seedlings into their new bigger planters! We have also had kayaking adventures this week with all children successful in learning how to paddle for speed and direction! This year our Inventor´s Event was very successful with even some prototypes being made. The groups worked collaboratively to invent, design, research and cost their inventions then pitch their unique ideas and investment desires to the“Dragons.” Two inventions earned an investments from the Dragons.

In our Spanish beginners class we introduced some instruments for our Summer Show. We are working very hard to surprise you in this event. See very soon at our Summer Show!
