Dear Parents,

I hope you find this weeks Newsletter of interest and that it showcases the many good things taking place at BIC Sa Porrassa.

Students are naturally excited as to the upcoming ski-trip to Andolo and plans are already taking shape for the trip in March to London, where our students will visit the Globe theatre and participate in a Shakespeare workshop, as well as having a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament. We are committed to ensuring that the learning opportunities for our students extend beyond the school and Mallorca. Many thanks for your support for these trips and the June trip to Paris.

I would like to take this opportunity to share a reminder of our attendance policy with you here. Please ensure you follow these procedures if your child will be absent from school.

At BIC, we are dedicated to supporting students to develop the most effective habits for learning—and we want your help. We are delighted to announce that we have booked international speaker Tricia Taylor to deliver our first BIC Parent Talk on the evening of March 14th. This exciting event will be held at Calanova Sailing Club in Sant Agusti and be based around The Science of Learning: Powerful Tools for Parents. In this session, you will learn specific strategies children can use to maximise memory and learn more efficiently, leading to more creative and analytical thinking—and better outcomes and more confidence. Ms Taylor will give you evidence-based tips on how you can support your children through your understanding of learning and the language you use in daily interactions. Together, we will help children to build confidence, learn better and be more independent learners throughout primary and secondary schools. Tickets are limited and will be available from the school reception at a cost of €10 per person (including a welcome drink). Get you tickets and find out more here.

I would also like to thank all the many messages of support and best wishes from parents after the news of my departure at the end of this academic year. Orbital Education is committed to ensuring a smooth transition and interviews for the new Principal are scheduled for the beginning of March. I am sure you will afford them the same support I have received from you these past four years.

As ever,

Duncan Giles
