British Curriculum - Adapted for Young Learners
British Curriculum Adapted for Young Learners: Sant Agustí follows the English National Curriculum from the Early Years Foundation Stage through Key Stages 1 and 2, tailored specifically for younger children. This curriculum is enhanced with a thematic, creative approach, ensuring learning is academically rigorous yet also exciting, active, and meaningful. Children engage in hands-on activities and interdisciplinary projects that make lessons relevant to their world.
Personalised & Holistic Learning: Classroom learning at Sant Agustí is designed to develop the whole child. Lessons not only focus on core academics but also incorporate personal skill development - cooperation, resilience, communication, and respect - as key objectives. The school’s guiding philosophy, “Believe, Inspire, Challenge,” underpins an emphasis on international mindedness and fostering respect for different perspectives and cultures. All classes are led by highly qualified UK-trained teachers, each supported by an experienced teaching assistant. With a low teacher-to-student ratio, educators can adapt lessons to each child’s needs, ensuring that every student is both challenged and supported in their learning journey.
Early Support & Inclusion: Sant Agustí provides strong support for learners of all backgrounds from day one. Children who arrive with English as an Additional Language (EAL) receive extra help in small groups or one-on-one sessions with specialist staff enabling them to quickly gain English fluency and access the full curriculum. Likewise, students who show advanced abilities are identified early and given extension activities and enrichment to help them flourish. This inclusive approach ensures every child - whether local or expatriate - is set up for success from the start of their educational journey.
Community & Environment
Family Atmosphere
Walk through BIC Sant Agustí on any day and you’ll immediately sense the friendly, family-oriented atmosphere. Teachers and staff know each child by name and personality, creating a nurturing environment of mutual respect and care. Parents are welcomed as partners in the school community - in fact, regular family events are a hallmark of Sant Agustí. From beach picnics to hiking days, these gatherings bring families and staff together outside the classroom, reinforcing the feeling of one big “school family”
Local and International Mix
Sant Agustí’s community is uniquely enriched by a mix of local and international families. Mallorcan and Spanish families bring the Spanish language and local traditions into the school, while expat families contribute global perspectives. As a result, children routinely hear both English and Spanish spoken around campus, and they often pick up some Catalan from their local peers as well. (Students born in Spain have lessons in Catalan to ensure they stay connected to the local culture) Growing up in this multilingual, multicultural setting helps all students develop empathy, open-mindedness, and cultural awareness from a young age.
Nurturing Values
At BIC Sant Agustí, core values like respect, kindness, and curiosity are woven into daily school life. There is a strong culture of empathy and positive encouragement - children are taught to treat others with kindness and to stay curious about the world around them. Because the environment makes students feel safe and supported, they develop the confidence to truly enjoy coming to school. Parents often observe that their children love coming to Sant Agustí each day because they feel so well cared for and confident in themselves. The result is happy young learners who grow in both character and academics.
Language Programmes
Multilingual Foundation (Spanish from Early Years)
Language learning is a central focus at Sant Agustí, reflecting the school’s multicultural ethos. From Nursery (age 3), all students learn Spanish with qualified native Spanish teachers. Spanish is taught in two streams: as a foreign language for non-Spanish speakers and as a first language for native speakers. This means every child, whether Spanish is new to them or spoken at home, is supported and challenged at the right level.
Introduction of Additional Languages (German & French)
Starting in Year 3 (around age 7-8), students have the opportunity to pick up additional modern languages as part of the curriculum. German and French lessons are offered from this stage, each taught by specialist teachers. For German in particular, the school provides two pathways - one for native or advanced German speakers (a dedicated “Native German Programme”) and another for those learning German as a new language. This tailored approach ensures that both heritage speakers and beginners can advance their language skills effectively. French is similarly taught at appropriate levels by qualified French teachers, giving children a strong foundation in another international language.English Language Support (EAL)
Since English is the medium of instruction at BIC, non-native English speakers are given robust support to thrive. The dedicated EAL (English as an Additional Language) programme operates across all year groups, providing targeted instruction to boost students’ English proficiency. Highly qualified EAL teachers work with children in small groups or one-on-one, focusing on the language skills they need to fully participate in class. New students are assessed on arrival to determine their English level and grouped accordingly, ensuring support is personalised. Through this intensive yet supportive approach, children quickly gain confidence in English without missing out on the wider curriculum. By offering multiple languages and strong English support, Sant Agustí ensures students become truly bilingual or even trilingual - a huge advantage for internationally minded families.Facilities & Enrichment Activities
Child-Centred Facilities
The Sant Agustí campus is thoughtfully designed with primary-aged children in mind. Classrooms are large, bright, and well-equipped for interactive learning, giving students space to explore and be creative. There are dedicated specialist rooms for subjects like music and art, where young learners can sing, play instruments, paint, and craft under expert guidance. The school also houses a well-stocked library to nurture a love of reading from an early age. Meal times are a delight in the spacious dining hall with views of the Mediterranean Sea - a daily reminder of the school’s stunning coastal location and a calm, scenic spot for children to enjoy lunch.
In addition to the on-campus facilities, the school makes superb use of its surrounding environment. A quaint little forest just a five-minute walk away serves as an outdoor classroom for “forest school” lessons, where children explore nature and build confidence through hands-on activities. We are also fortunate to have many beautiful beaches within walking distance of the campus, providing opportunities for beach explorations and community projects like beach clean-ups to learn about marine conservation. Moreover, only a short walk from the school is Port Calanova (home to the Spanish National Sailing School). Here, our students get to try sailing, kayaking, and other water sports under professional instruction - an exciting extension of our PE curriculum and after-school clubs. These outdoor experiences take learning beyond the classroom and encourage a healthy, adventurous spirit in our children.
Extracurricular Opportunities
Beyond the regular curriculum, Sant Agustí offers a wealth of after-school clubs and activities to enrich students’ experiences. Each day after classes (from 15:45 to 17:00) there are extracurricular clubs for students to join. These clubs span sports, arts, music, languages, and more - allowing children to pursue their interests and discover new hobbies. For example, students can join sports teams, take up a musical instrument, engage in art and craft projects, or participate in additional language and culture clubs. Some clubs even take advantage of our location (such as sailing or beach games). These activities not only help develop well-rounded skills and passions but also provide fun and social time, ending each school day on a high note.
Transition to Secondary Education
Seamless Pathway to Secondary
One of the advantages of choosing BIC Sant Agustí is the clear path it provides into high-quality secondary education. When students complete Year 6 (the final primary year, around age 11), they transition smoothly to Baleares International College, Sa Porrassa - our sister campus for secondary education. Because both schools are part of the same BIC family (and the Orbital Education group), the move from Sant Agustí to Sa Porrassa is well-coordinated and reassuringly seamless. The two campuses work closely together; for example, there are joint events and visits that allow Sant Agustí pupils to get familiar with the Sa Porrassa environment and staff before they move up. This careful transition planning means our Year 6 graduates already feel at home when they start Year 7 at BIC Sa Porrassa.Ongoing Academic Excellence
By transferring to BIC Sa Porrassa, students continue following the respected British curriculum into secondary school and ultimately prepare for IGCSE and A Level examinations. Families can rest assured that the excellent education does not stop at age 11 - your child has a guaranteed place for the next stage of their learning within the BIC system. For local families, it’s worth noting that the secondary education at BIC is officially recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education, meaning all British qualifications earned (IGCSEs, A Levels) can be easily convalidated to the Spanish system if needed. In short, a Sant Agustí primary education opens doors for your child both globally and locally, setting them up for future success wherever they choose to go.
Global Network
Although BIC Sant Agustí is a small, close-knit campus, it benefits from being part of the global Orbital Education network of international schools. This connection gives our students unique opportunities to broaden their horizons beyond Mallorca. For instance, there are collaborative projects and cultural exchange activities where BIC students connect with peers in other Orbital schools around the world, sharing experiences and learning together. Being backed by an international education group also means access to worldwide best practices and resources. In essence, while Sant Agustí offers a personal, family feel, it comes with the added advantage of global reach and support through the Orbital network
