Students and staff at Baleares International College Sa Porrassa are celebrating another excellent set of IGCSE results this summer, with 83 students collecting 456 grades across nineteen subjects.

More than three quarters of all grades awarded — 78.5% — were at the equivalent of A* to C, and over a third were at the very highest levels of 9/8 or A*/A. Fifty-five grades were awarded at grade 9 or A*, the top mark available.

Nearly three quarters of our Year 11 students achieved five or more good passes at A* to C, and more than two thirds achieved five or more including both English and mathematics — the benchmark that opens the door to Sixth Form study and beyond.

Perhaps most tellingly of all, our students collectively outperformed their predicted potential by almost three quarters of a grade. Three in four entries met or beat the target set for them when they began the course. That is a measure not of raw ability but of teaching, effort and the progress made between Year 9 and the exam hall.

INDIVIDUAL SUCCESS STORIES

Warmest congratulations to Daria, who achieved eight A*/9 and an A/8 and to Kenji, who achieved seven A*/9 and two A/8. Both produced quite exceptional sets of results, with top grades right across the sciences, humanities andlanguages.

Daniel, Elena, Yuna-Sumidah, Miles, Amelie, Alexander, Michelle, Lillia, Hugo, Arsenii, Nikolai and Marlo all secured superb portfolios of high grades and should be enormously proud of what they have achieved.

Special mention goes to Alexander, Amelie, Monique, Michelle, Willow and Arsenii, each of whom finished well above the targets they were set — an extraordinary demonstration of what determination and good teaching canachieve together.

“There is a lot to celebrate here. Behind every grade is a young person who has worked hard, and behind every subject success is a department that has thought carefully about how to teach it well. I am delighted for our students and for the families who have supported them. Many of these students now move into our Sixth Form, and I look forward to seeing what they go on to achieve. To those heading elsewhere, we wish them every success — they leave us extremely well prepared.”

DEPARTMENTAL HIGHLIGHTS

The amazing maths team enjoyed its strongest year ever! A record 23 grades were awarded at 9 or 8 (A* or A) and an incredible 63% of all entries were at grade 7 or above, with students finishing well over a grade and a half above their targets.

Our modern languages continue to be a jewel in the school's crown. Spanish returned 74% at A* to A, French saw every single student achieve A* to C, and German maintained its consistently outstanding standard.

Geography deserves particular recognition: every single student met or exceeded their target grade, a feat achieved by no other subject in the school.

Science produced its best results in four years following the move to separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with entries at an all-time high and a marked lift in top grades. Drama, meanwhile, saw half of all candidates reach A* to A.

Our Year 10 students also made an outstanding start, sitting a modern language a year early and returning 25 A* grades from 27 entries.

“These results are a credit to every student in the year group. What strikes me most is not any single headline figure but the consistency — three quarters of our entries met or beat the targets set for them, and that happens because of sustained, patient work by students and teachers over five years, not because of a good fortnight in May. I am immensely proud of them, and I would like to thank our teaching staff, who know these young people extraordinarily well and have supported them at every turn.”
Phil Brown, Head of Secondary

Congratulations to all on their outstanding achievements.
