María José Guerrero is a Spanish and Catalan teacher, as well as the Language Department Coordinator, at Baleares International College Sant Agustí. She has added immense value to our language team since September 2014. She has over ten years' experience teaching in an international school setting and has developed a strong professional profile supporting students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
She holds a degree in Primary Education, specialising in Foreign Languages, from the Universitat de les Illes Balears. She has also gained international experience through an Erasmus programme in Sweden in 2008 and advanced English studies at Kaplan International Languages in Toronto.
María takes a student-centred, communicative approach to teaching, focusing on meaningful learning, inclusion and the practical use of language. She led the implementation of a debate project at the school — a methodology she is particularly passionate about — successfully inspiring and engaging Years 5 and 6 students while developing their critical thinking, communication and confidence skills.
In her role as department coordinator, she prioritises teamwork, reflection and continuous improvement. Outside of work, she is a proud mother of two children. She is passionate about sport, especially running, and spending time in nature. She also enjoys cinema, music and quality family time. These values strongly shape her educational philosophy.
