A message from Janice Short, Principal
Dear families
Sant Agusti is going from strength to strength every single day and as we come to the end of the third week in school, our building is definitely turning into a school again. The school is buzzing and coming alive as the children make it their home from home, not only with the displays of work but with the positivity from the school community, which can be felt around the school.
We are already in full lessons with all kinds of learning happening in and around the school. The teachers are preparing engaging lessons with children delving deeper into new topics. I am transported from Dinosaur Worlds to Ancient Egypt and from Africa to the topic of Chocolate as I move around, watching the children soak up all the knowledge as only children can. It has been a pleasure to sit alongside one of our youngest children while she read her book to me and then visit the Y1 Seals Circus to look at their amazing books they have written. I have discussed the advantages and disadvantages of debit and credit cards with Y6, who now realise that not only does money get taken out of your bank account when you use a card but also that you often have to pay interest when you use a credit card, which is very unfair!
We have started to complete assessments with Y3-6 to help us develop a deeper understanding of the children’s strengths and areas of development, especially after the closure. We will be adapting our lessons to take these findings into account and making sure that the children are all making progress.
Our first fire drill of the year went very smoothly and the children’s behaviour as they left the building and lined up in the playgrounds was exemplary. Well done!
We have started the sailing programme again in the last few days which went really well and allows us to start planning for the extra curricular activities which we are hoping to start in the near future.
Next week we are looking forward to welcoming you to our curriculum meetings , where you can meet both me and the teachers to talk about the type of activities and topics they will be doing this term.
I hope you have a lovely weekend, see you next week

Nursery Starfish Class
Another week has flown by and Starfish Class children are certainly not sitting still!
There is so much running, playing, laughing going on during the day;, our class is a real happy place! We now start every single morning with our outdoor circle time and we have introduced ¨the helper of the day¨ who will help Miss Helen, Miss Sara and I with our daily tasks.
We will continue with our topic, ¨All about me, a celebration of diversity¨ and we are learning about ourselves, each other and all the people around us. Our classroom is starting to become more and more colourfully decorated each day with photos and artwork of all the beautiful members of our Starfish Class, which makes it a personal homely space - and we love it!
Thank you for sending all these photos in.
We wish you a wonderful weekend and are looking forward to seeing you again on Monday.
Reception Seahorses Class
I can’t believe another week has flown by! In Seahorses class we have been really busy this week. We have started our new topic, “All about myself” and we are reviewing the different parts of the body through games and songs. I think that the best part was helping and watching the children draw their own silhouette and painting it afterwards. They have also written the labels with the body parts for the display. They look really cool! We have also made some crafts to decorate our House’s new board. Can you guess what School House it is?
Year 1 Seals Class
We have been busy in Seals class creating our very own “Circus Books”. These are the finishing touches to our first unit of English, lists, labels and captions. On Friday we are expecting a special visitor in class to share our circus books.
We have also all signed our class rule. This year in Seals class, we have one rule: Be Kind. The children have all signed an agreement that they will do this throughout the school year.
In Art, the children created a Moving Circus Scene. Next time you arrive at school look up at our balcony to take a look!
Year 2 Turtles Class
This week in Turtles we have been busy finishing our Dinosaur fact files and looking at what Dinosaurs needed to survive millions of years ago! We looked at where the most famous fossil digs were and located them on a world map.
In maths we have been continuing with Arrays and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to help us answer simple multiplications. We also started our phonics groups this week and are revising the end of set 1 and set 2 sounds.
Year 3 Dolphins Class
This week in Dolphins class we have been learning about forces and what friction is. We conducted an experiment where we looked at different surfaces and how much friction they had. We used a toy car to measure the distance it travelled on grass, rubber, concrete and wood. We made sure it was a fair test by controlling the height of the ramp used. We recorded our findings and will be comparing them in our next science lesson!
Year 4 Jellyfish Class
Wow what a great week!! Have you ever wondered what life would be like in Ancient Egypt? Well the Jellyfish have all the answers! They loved playing “Beat the Teacher” with all their facts and knowledge about the River Nile. I dare you to challenge them to a game of “Beat the Parent”.......can you name the 9 countries the River Nile runs through?
The Jellyfish have been stretching their brains, whilst stretching their sentences, learning about conjunctions. They also had lots of fun taking part in their own Science experiment turning still water into fizzy water.
You’ll see from the photos that we also enjoyed creating an Egyptian sunset using watercolours, as the sun sets over the pyramids. Have a wonderful relaxing weekend and we’ll see you again on Monday!!
Year 5 Whales Class
In Year 5 this week we have been learning about different nutrients and the digestive system. What a long way our food travels! Thanks to our super healthy bodies we have also been able to set some super distance records in our PE lessons, with one child managing an amazing 2m!
We have also been working super hard in Maths and are becoming a lot more confident when working with numbers to 2 decimal places.
Year 6 Sharks Class
This week the children have enjoyed getting into our English story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and written some great character descriptions. Their geographical skills are flourishing as they are discovering the landscape and main cities of Mexico and they have plotted these on a map, using a key.
Our Art topic is also linked to Central America and we have been exploring Mexican art and inspiring artists such as Frida Kahlo.
This week the class completed their own piece of artwork inspired by Joaquin Torres Garcia using symbols to represent important aspects of their lives!
Sports department news
In KS1 students were having a great time by demonstrating many different animal movements- activities that promote better balance and coordination.
In KS2 students were focused on mastering their locomotor skills - such as running, jumping, hopping, and galloping. Students were practising different travelling patterns on the course and then were able to design their own one.
Children were talking about how their body feels before, during and after exercise.
Students were explaining why it is important to warm up before exercise, focus on following rules and staying safe during physical activities.
Well done everyone!
